Gascon Can’t Raise Money in L.A. County, Where Voters Are Tired of His Failed Policies, Lawlessness

Hochman Gets 83% of His Donations From L.A. County Residents, While Nearly Half of Gascon Donors Live Hundreds of Miles Away

LOS ANGELES / Sept. 27, 2024 — Nathan Hochman, the leading candidate for District Attorney of Los Angeles County, has significantly outraised and outspent incumbent George Gascon, whose failures in office have forced him to seek contributions from people living in San Francisco and other places beyond Los Angeles County to fund his deteriorating bid for reelection.

According to an LAist report, almost a quarter of Gascon’s campaign contributions were made by Bay Area residents with an additional 8% from people living outside California, where donors are mostly unaffected by Gascon’s failed leadership. Los Angeles County residents account for just 57% of Gascon’s campaign contributions, a sign that residents in his own county are increasingly fed up with the adverse effects of Gascon’s destructive policies on their day-to-day life.

By contrast, the vast majority of Hochman’s contributions (83%) were made by Los Angeles County residents, according to LAist, an indication of his strong support among likely voters in the nonpartisan race.

Hochman said: “As we enter the final weeks of the campaign, I am not surprised that George Gascon has had to rely so heavily on donations from outside Los Angeles County to support his bid for reelection. We have seen firsthand how his failed social experiment has brought lawlessness to our county without any consideration for the hard-working people he was elected to protect. Those who support me are inspired by my message of hope for a safer Los Angeles County, which starts with removing Gascon and his pro-criminal policies on Nov. 5.”

Since 2023, Hochman has raised almost $3.9 million in campaign contributions to Gascon’s $678,784, according to LAist, signifying widespread and bipartisan support for Hochman, a former federal prosecutor and criminal defense attorney who once served as president of the L.A. City Ethics Commission.
